Snip Nua – Rest In Peace
26.01.10
Many of you will already be aware, confirmation has officially been received of Snip Nua’s destruction at Harolds Cross dog track on December 14th after sustaining a broken hock, in what we now know to have been her last and fatal race.
Snip Nua, at the tender age of 19 months, competed in just 7 races before she was deemed a financial liability by her 16 affluent syndicate members, to include the Business Editor of the Irish Times – Frank McNally and of course the ‘joker’ in the pack, Dara O’Briain.

Campaign Launched to Close Newcastle Dog Track
23.01.10
If you live in the North-East – please try to support this Greyhound Action event
Local animal protection campaigners in Newcastle-upon-Tyne have launched a campaign to close the city's greyhound stadium and hope to start holding regular demonstrations and leafletting sessions soon.
There have been occasional demos outside the William Hill owned stadium in the past but Newcastle Animal Rights (NAR) want to hold these on a regular basis in order to reduce attendances at the track and drive it towards eventual closure.
The existence of Newcastle dog track is responsible for the slaughter of about 500 greyhounds every year, so please do your best to support this important campaign, especially if you live in or near the Tyneside area.
If you are able to help, by attending demos etc., even if only occasionally, please contact NAR at

Did the BBC Callously Dismiss the Deaths of Two Greyhounds?
20.01.10
On New Years day the BBC aired another shameful piece of pro racing propaganda – Three Men in a Boat - and on a day when last year’s Christmas Special achieved the BBC’s highest rating over the festive period, with 5 million viewers.
The Three Men in a Boat – Rory McGrath, Griff Rhys-Jones and Dara O’Brian – as part of their travels across Ireland visit Mullingar dog track on October 10th, to gamble on O’Brian’s jointly owned greyhound, Snip Nua.
It has been alleged Snip Nua has since been destroyed due to sustaining a horrific injury prior to the BBC airing the programme. The fate of Redwood Rio – who was badly injured during the BBC sponsored race at Mullingar – remains unknown.

WARNING – Are Your Kennels Smoke Alarmed?
07.01.10
Further to six greyhounds dying after fire spread throughout kennels in North Yorkshire, last October, another ten greyhounds – kennelled in County Armagh Northern Ireland - have died due to smoke inhalation.
David Park - kennel owner- who keeps greyhounds for racing and coursing, has estimated the loss – in his words - to be in region of tens of thousands of pounds.
In an interview with the BBC – Mr Park said ‘Nobody in their right minds would touch an animal – it doesn’t do anybody any wrong’ and questioned ‘How do you make an animal suffer?’
Perhaps Mr Park should look towards the very industry he supports to answer that question.
He goes on to say ‘The only people that would do things like this are Saboteurs’
A spokesperson for the Hunt Saboteurs said ‘Sadly it is Mr Park who is misguided, in assuming this is the work of a group of people who are traditionally concerned for all animals – hares, foxes and dogs. The real enemy are the hare coursers who destroy dogs once they are of no further use.'
The arson attack comes just days after the Irish Greyhound Board announced they looked set to lose in the region of €100,000 due to cancelled races because of the weather and less than a month after the Irish Government announced a 13pc cut in funding to the racing industry.

Early Day Motion to Help Greyhounds
An Appeal from the League Against Cruel Sports
The government will present regulations covering the greyhound racing industry to the House of Commons in the next few weeks. Please ask your MP to add his or her disapproval by signing Early Day Motion 386 which calls on the government to give the House of Commons the opportunity to consider the regulations in more detail.
Greyhound racing can involve much unnecessary cruelty, behind the scenes. But because greyhounds don’t often die on the track, most people don’t give it a second thought.
So we were delighted when, earlier this year, the government published draft rules and regulations and asked organisations like the League to give their views. The government has now read everyone’s comments and has decided to ignore them all. In fact, the only change they are making to the draft is to make rules about kennelling only apply to newly built kennels.
Some people say that the new regulations offer some improvements but they miss the point. If these regulations are accepted, future governments will simply say that greyhound welfare has been dealt with and they will ignore the issue. But if the regulations are debated, we can force future governments to keep a very close eye on this issue and make improvements to greyhound welfare.
Please click here and ask your MP to sign EDM 386 for the sake of the tens of thousands of greyhounds caught up in this cruel sport.
Thank you very much for your support.
Yours,

Annette Crosbie
President
