'Concentration Camp' Kennels
28.03.09
On March 17th 2009, greyhound owners Robert and John Freeman were privately prosecuted by the RSPCA in a criminal court and found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to greyhounds.
The court heard how a tip-off from a concerned member of the pubic had alerted the NGRC in February to the appalling conditions the greyhounds were kept in at Woodside kennels, Colchester Essex.
The dogs were left in cages, covered in urine and excrement and without food or water or light for days causing some of them to bite at the bars in frustration and walk round in circles constantly.

Heavy media campaign fails to prevent cut backs at Belle Vue
23.03.09
Throughout February the racing industry bombarded the public with promotional gimmicks such as the ‘1p Meal Deal’ and the ‘£5 Credit Cruncher’ - televised nationally during peak viewing times and at great expense to the industry.
However, because of snow and icy conditions in early February many tracks were forced to close with a loss of 1000’s of attendances. In a desperate attempt to claw back the punters the racing industry then launched a national campaign and ‘Free Entry’ vouchers were printed in the Sun newspaper.
Despite this heavy media campaign to superficially boost attendances – Manchester’s Belle Vue stadium have announced they are to drop their midweek meeting and make at least six senior positions redundant. This will be a huge psychological blow to the industry, as Belle Vue is seen as the Jewel in the Crown of the five GRA owned stadiums.
Coral bookmakers, who own Romford and Hove stadiums have admitted that both stadiums are struggling and Kevin Wilde – head of stadia – who is attempting to address the situation has said ‘Were not talking tinkering with them either, they both need major surgery’.

Dead Greyhound Horror Story
17.03.09
Yet more sad and distressing news has hit the headlines – this time a greyhound’s decomposing body has been found with his ears cut off, on a footpath in between Trimdon and Kelloe in County Durham – less than three miles from Wheatley Hill independent greyhound stadium.
'Timmy'
Run fast......Run free at last
The woman who took the gruesome pictures has asked for her identity to be kept secret for fear of reprisals from the dog’s owner, who is thought to live locally.
This area of County Durham is scattered with greyhounds that have run on licensed tracks and then sold or given away – only to be further exploited on ‘flapping’ tracks. Kept in garden sheds or on allotments in filthy conditions, these poor greyhounds miserable existence are a direct result of commercial greyhound racing and undoubtedly the ultimate responsibility lay with the bookmakers who finance and have total control of this exploitative industry.

Murdered & Mutilated Pregnant Greyhound
16.03.09
The RSPCA have released a photograph to Greyt Exploitations of the pregnant greyhound found at Acton Iron near Bristol, to help try and find those guilty of this despicable crime.
As she was found on February 14th - Valentines Day - we have now named her 'Valentina'.
Although very distressing, the photograph clearly shows the two distinctive white spots on Valentina’s throat and it is hoped that someone will recognise her and come forward with information which would lead to a criminal prosecution.

Rest gently sweetheart ~ you & your babies are now safe from harm

RSPCA PRESS RELEASE
11.03.09
In a distressing incident on Saturday 14 February, the body of a dog was found dumped in Iron Acton, near Yate, Bristol, with both ears cut off.
Irish Racing greyhounds are tattooed in the ears for identification purposes and it is thought that the dog, a female greyhound who was heavily pregnant with six pups, was mutilated in order to prevent the culprits in this horrific case from being traced.
Now the RSPCA is hoping that someone will recognise this dog, who is black with white markings under her chin and a white blaze between her forelegs as well as two white spots on her throat.
Though it is not yet clear how the dog, who is thought to be about four-years-old died, veterinary examination suggested that the body has been dumped within 24 hours of when it was found.
Her ears had been removed with a sharp blade and she found wrapped in a blanket.
RSPCA Inspector John Atkinson, who is investigating, said: “This is a very distressing incident for all involved, and we are investigating every possible avenue.

Greyhounds disgusting death - 'tip of the iceberg'
06.03.09

'AMY'
Sleep peacefully gentle girl
A dogs body found tied up inside a potato sack has been washed up on the banks of the River Foyle in Derry in very similar circumsatnces to the two greyhounds drowned last year.
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/0801/1217368811973.html
Joanne Mullan who volunteers for the Rainbow Animal Shelter says "It was a horrible day and it was clear that this dog was still alive when dumped in the river, as it pushed its legs through the sack. Although badly decomposed I believe it to be a greyhound carcass. This animal died a horrific horrendous death. This is totally inexcusable and absolutely disgusting but probably is just the tip of the iceberg."

Greyhound found stabbed to death
04.03.09
A greyhound has been found stabbed to death in the Silksworth area of Sunderland - North East England - by a lady walking her dog.
The gruesome discovery was made on February 11th and although the police visited the scene shortly after the crime was reported and removed a breadknife found next to the body, Jean Frost was horrified to find the body left to rot and exposed to the elements a week later.
Mrs Frost, who volunteers for several animal rescue centres across the region, said the dog looked as though it had been badly treated and was malnourished - "There were bones sticking out of its body and it looked extremely thin like it hadn't been looked after. It's so sad."
There are no less than five greyhound stadiums all within a 15 mile radius of Silksworth – Newcastle, Sunderland and Pelaw Grange licensed tracks and Wheatley Hill and Easington independent tracks. The town of Seaham where David Smith was exposed by The Sunday Times of slaughtering an estimated 10,000 greyhounds is also situated less than 5 miles from Silksworth.
Greyhound racing is obviously economically important to the area and as such is well supported. Both the police and the RSPCA have been reluctant to confirm details of any investigation that may have been held.
